Livelihood Support

From 2015 to 2016, the Youth Strength Association (YSA) and Better Life Organization jointly implemented agricultural development projects in nine villages of Kyauk Phyu Township. These initiatives aimed to improve local livelihoods and enhance social security through sustainable farming practices and community engagement.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

From 2016 to 2018, YSA implemented the Rural Women’s Income Growth Savings and Loans Program in five villages of Kyauk Phyu Township. The program, conducted in collaboration with village authorities, aimed to empower women economically by improving access to financial resources and promoting income-generating activities.

Strengthening the Communication of CSOs Project

In 2018–2019, YSA launched the Strengthening the Communication of CSOs project with support from ActionAid Myanmar. The project built communication and networking capacities by training 40 youth from six civil society organizations and eight villages in Kyauk Phyu Township. These youth served as communication and networking coaches, and follow-up training sessions were held in their communities to broaden the project’s impact.

Social Accountability Activities

Implemented from 2018 to 2019, the Social Accountability project engaged six local civil society organizations and five villages in Kyauk Phyu Township. In collaboration with key government departments—including Rural Development, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, and Fisheries—the project promoted community participation in governance and transparency.

Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) Activity

Between March 2019 and 2020, YSA led a UK-funded CBDRR project in eight coastal villages in Kyauk Phyu Township that are vulnerable to natural disasters. The initiative was implemented in collaboration with the Township Disaster Management Department, Fire Department, Red Cross Society, and local authorities, focusing on preparedness and community resilience.

COVID-19 Emergency Response Activities

With funding from HARP-F, YSA conducted emergency COVID-19 response activities in Kyauk Phyu Town in coordination with local authorities and civil society organizations. The project delivered hygiene kits and food to 11 urban wards and 5 quarantine centers to help mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

Creating a Non-Discrimination Youth Environment Project

To foster peace and social cohesion, YSA and partner civil society organizations conducted capacity-building workshops and inclusive dialogue sessions for diverse youth in Kyauk Phyu Township. The project aimed to create a non-discriminatory environment that encourages youth collaboration and unity.

Food Distribution and Pond Renovation Activity

Since 2016, YSA, youth volunteers, civil society organizations, and donors have collaborated with local authorities to provide food assistance and renovate community ponds in areas facing drinking water shortages.

Emergency Response and Assistance (Cyclone Mokha & Beyond)

Following Cyclone Mokha in 2024, YSA joined the newly established Kyauk Phyu CSOs Emergency Relief Network (KCERN), working with other civil society groups and local authorities to distribute emergency food supplies in disaster-affected areas.

Emergency Multi-Purpose Cash Transfer Program

In response to rising displacement in 2024, YSA launched a multi-purpose cash transfer program to meet the basic livelihood needs of displaced families in Kyauk Phyu Township. The program is funded by People In Need (PIN) and is being implemented in coordination with local actors.
